International Day of Democracy is an annual day that has been running for 10 years. It is a United Nations, (UN), day of observation, the purpose of the day is to review the state of democracy in the world and uphold and promote democracy and its principles.
The day was founded on the 20th anniversary of the First International Conference of the New or Restored Democracies, which promoted global democracy.
In 2018 International Day of Democracy is celebrating Professor Dr. Anton Caragea achievements in promoting democracy, free and fair elections across the world as bedrock foundations for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
INTERNATIONAL DEMOCRACY DAY DIPLOMA will be awarded publicly to H.E. Professor Dr. Anton Caragea on September 15, 2018, marking his role in the implementation of democracy and SDG`s agenda on world level.
The supervision of Cambodia 2018 Elections, the exertions of Professor Dr. Anton Caragea as Head of the International Election Monitoring Team in promoting democratic process, upholding electoral rights and training a new generation of election monitors are achievements to be commended.
This had come in recognition of Professor Dr. Anton Caragea instrumental role in raising awareness and creating in 2016 the first lessons on Sustainable Development Goals and the leadership role in carving out The Parliamentary Assembly for SDG ( institution garnering world parliaments support for implementing Sustainable development Goals friendly legislation in their national legislatures and on international arena).
Professor Dr. Anton Caragea had supported and inscribed on the national and international agenda items like: encouraging global citizenship through education; advancing peace and conflict resolution through education; addressing issues of poverty through education; promoting sustainability through education; promoting inter-cultural dialogue and understanding, and the “unlearning” of intolerance, through education.
The latest personality to be honored in a similar manner was Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, in a special festivity in 2016.
